¿Cuál es la diferencia entre will y will be doing?

Will (futuro simple) habla de una decisión o predicción: 'I will call you.' Will be doing (futuro continuo) habla de una acción en progreso en un momento futuro: 'I will be calling you at 3 PM.' El futuro continuo es más específico: describe qué estará pasando en un instante concreto del futuro.

¿Puedo usar el futuro continuo para hacer planes más educados?

Sí, y es uno de sus usos más importantes en el inglés cotidiano y profesional. 'Will you be attending the conference?' suena más cortés que '¿Vas a ir?' porque no presiona directamente al interlocutor. También se usa cuando quieres ofrecer algo sin imponer: 'I'll be passing by your office — shall I bring the report?'

Cuando queremos expresar que una acción estará en progreso en un momento concreto del futuro (especialmente con 'this time tomorrow', 'at X o'clock'), el futuro continuo es más preciso que el futuro simple. El futuro simple (will fly) simplemente indica que el vuelo ocurrirá, no que estará en progreso en ese momento exacto.

Truco para recordar

Imagina que estás mirando el reloj en el futuro. ¿Qué estará pasando en ese momento exacto? Si puedes imaginarte en medio de la acción (no acabando de empezar ni terminando), usa will be doing. La expresión 'this time tomorrow' es tu mejor señal de alarma para el futuro continuo.
